About Karen Hewlett

Karen graduated as a registered massage therapist from the Sutherland-Chan School of Massage in 1995. Before that she earned a degree in Sociology and Health Studies from York University. She played field hockey at an elite level for about 20 years, represented Canada at the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles as part of a World Cup silver-medal team, and was inducted into the York University Sports Hall of Fame in 2016.

Karen specializes in myofascial work and is trained in NISA (Neuromuscular Integrative Structural Alignment). She has completed courses in massage and cancer and massage and post-traumatic stress, and she is a Certified Pediatric Massage Therapist and Certified Infant Massage Teacher. She has volunteered in oncology at SickKids Hospital since 2002.

She holds a certification in Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction, a program that helps people cope with illness, pain and stress, and she is interested in Microcurrent Point Stimulation for ongoing and acute soft tissue pain. A strong interest in holistic healing and the body-mind-spirit connection runs through her work.
